ISO 857-1 was widely, up to and including chapter 3, replaced by EN 14610 in view of the harmonisation of the European internal market and in the course of globalisation. Due to the relevance of the contents from ISO 857-1 that had not been included in EN 14610, these are to taken from DIN 1910-100.The valid ordinal numbers fort he welding processes are established in EN ISO 4063.

All of the welding process which start with the index 1 belong to the arc welding processes. Furthermore, the processes beginning with the number 11 are part of metal arc-welding and do not use shielding gases, such as 111 for manual arc-welding.
All submerged arc welding processes are marked with the index 12, for example:
121 Submerged arc wire welding,
122 Submerged arc strip welding.
The gas-shielded metal arc-welding processes are marked with the index 13, for example:
131 MIG,
135 MAG with solid wire electrode,
136 with flux-cored wire electrode.
All resistance welding processes begin with the index 2, spot welding processes have the index 21.
In the tables you see some selected processes and their symbols and indexes.
